I thought I was out, but they pulled me back in...
Cue Al Pacino clutching his chest in an flamboyant yet epic show of what years of brutality and hardship as a Mafia boss will bring. Kay!....where are you Kay!!
Okay, so my rejoining of the rat-race after traveling is maybe not as dramatic. but I can certainly empathise with Michael Corleone in my own little way.
When thoughts are prompted having repeatedly been asked how I'm, "settling back into life in the UK", of the heart sinking realisation of how I'd actually totally forgotten about travelling, and left with the "yeah, fine, just slipped back into it really" retort.
Those who have travelled with know how sad that truly feels. Imagine the first day back at School after the best summer holidays ever, and multiply that by a 100.
How long ago it all seems now? Just a blurry dream that filled the vacuous space away from work.
Work work work.
"It's like you never left eh!?" my boss bleats, followed by the light-hearted pity slap on the back as though to say, 'You may have left for a bit but you're back now aren't you!". He might as well have had little horns, pointing with his red spindle like fingers at a piece of blood stained paper with the words "we own your soul" on it.
Meh, here I am 3 months & change on and I'm thinking about life, somewhat similarly to before, pondering a few noticeable changes between the two times, notably:
I'm not sure where this is going, needless to say I love you all that much.
This is what it's like to be 30.
Life begins here, fuck the last 29 years, they were nothing. Look out world, etc. etc.
As Dylan said: There's a battle outside and it's ragin', it'll shake up your windows and rattle your walls for the times, they are a-changin'.

Meh, here I am 3 months & change on and I'm thinking about life, somewhat similarly to before, pondering a few noticeable changes between the two times, notably:
- A much more hungry work ethic (I know, I was surprised too).
- An improved zest for life (outside of jumping from a plane) for new experiences.
- A better understanding of the world.
- Likewise, its people.
- A lessened tolerance of stupid people.
- A need to prevent the stagnation of all of the ideas above.
I'm not sure where this is going, needless to say I love you all that much.

The ad nauseam of niceness
Someone please, riddle me this...
Show me where it says, that where once you were promised aspiration on a silver platter and left, instead, with nothing of the sort, (bar the same yen for wanton perfection in life), that one should continue the facade that has become their day, and appear forevermore, happy.
Where does it state that this lackluster acceptance of perfectionless "shite" should go unnoticed, brushed under the carpet, time and time again.
Forsaken of normality in it's many reaches, continually uprooting and undermining the very values and emotions one tries so hard to set in concrete, continually denied of such luxuries and peace.
Continually uprooted, nail on the head.
Does everyone go along with this sycophantic merry-go-round?
It's spin is enough to make you vomit at first, and as time marches on would have you get used to it and eventually forgetting it's spin.
Is this where I falter?
Perhaps. But I'm no fool.
Emotional, but no fool.

Mini Muffins
Disclaimer: Those with little or no expectation of taste, clarity or coherent thought in the following dialog, will unlikely be disappointed.
Today:
Thought: The vacancy of thought, and wait for occupation.
Facebook. Thats right, flippin' facebook.
A sign of the times.
Facebook may well serve as a utility for mass networking and communication, but what is it really doing for people, what does it show and what should people attribute to it's success?
As per with most of my thoughts, I ask:
Is there a far more sinister undertone to this genius, time wasting tool?
The answers in the question.
What's sinister about it? I hear you ask, well, I'm glad you did, ponder this...
Geared towards those who wish to stay in relatively frequent communication, i.e the home surfers and occasional webbites, Facebook has thrived through it's ability to create networks not just as it did in it's humble academic institutions (which I remember singing up for many many moons ago as a student), but through the work place, and the workplaces of the friends of its users.
All friendly, easy going and fisher price like - so far so good.
However.
All those people, all those work places...surely there was something else, something we are all supposed to be doing...
Work, perhaps?
Have we evolved so far ahead that we can multi task, juggling work and play at the same time?
Perhaps.
Or is there something else, something silently screaming at us from the back benches?
Here's what I thought...
I attribute Facebook's boundless success to the unsatisfied, unfulfilled, and numbed generation of button pushing drones the modern workplace has unintentionally created. Unintentionally removing the enjoyment, excitement and the enduring appeal of career. All of this, in place of the current state of affairs, leaving society of young (ish) people of which I am a demographic member of, in the work place.
They are bored people. Bored, bored, bored.
Not all you understand, there are those who would disagree. they are the ones that come on every now and then, casually changing their status from, "Nick is Eating Toast" to Nick is glad to have finished all his meetings for the day", chortling all the way. What jolly japes.
You know the ones.
Call me crazy, but to me, everyone I see online and at play on Facebook appears to have the same traits, and be in lack luster jobs with either not enough to do, or not enough inner oomph to do it.
A sign of the times, yes.
A warning?
Probably.

29 and 1 day
This seems like a cool place to Blog, and as the world domination of facebook advances, a welcome change of view.
Disclaimer: Those with little or no expectation of cognitive, useful or even coherent thought in the following dialog, will unlikely be disappointed.
Today
Thought: Chicken.
I dread to to think how many I've eaten in my life, let alone all the other little blighter's. But it is in the land of chickens that I would most likely be tried, convicted and at the end of a rope for Poultry-like war crimes of a Genocidal nature.
Thought: Being old, (er).
29 and a day I am, feel any different I don't.
However the point of, " taking stock" and " looking back upon achievement ", is nearly nigh, and what a joy to behold it is.
Creeping forever forward, the next year holds quite possibly the most influential year of my life. Not (just) hitting 30, far from it, but for a myriad of reasons and, as cliche's go, this one's a doozie. It does appear that things have moved in such a way, that my 30th year on this Planet will signify the next, and most prominent chapter in my life. As a 30 something buying his first property, settling roots, traveling and working for myself. All whilst being a member of the demographic that society deems the most influential in terms of point of view, and vote.
A scary thought.
All of which, however, may or may not mean anything on face value, but the reasons behind them do, as they are the same reasons I am writing this.
These mile stones, (there I said it) are, as far as I can muster, strategically placed points of reflection in ones life where one shall either:
a) Look back at their joyous existence, reveling in it's splendor, and carry on in the same Julie Andrews-like manor they have become accustomed.
b) Look back at their less than perfect existence thus far, feel a little let down, and use that hapless feeling as a positive catalyst to improve their life 10 fold, ultimately ending up on "The Apprentice", and loosing to a better looking foe.
c) Look back at their less that perfect existence thus far, not be too surprised, realise that it's perhaps too late now anyway, accept their fate, and live a happier life re-discovering Cheese and Television.
I'd like to think I'm a B person, and will use this next decade to discover working for myself, finding long lost inspiration and being bloody good at what I do, but who is to say? (I do like a bit of Cheese).
Next year shall tell.
